This QCF approved course is delivered in a classroom as well as in the work place. The HND programme is devised of two separate years. The first year is a standalone qualification the Higher National Certificate (HNC), which could be claimed after the first year. Those students that wish to qualify in the Diploma programme must complete the second year. Each year consists of 120 credits for a total of 240 for the full HND. Those taking the HND programme must complete the six mandatory units, three at level four and three at level five. Students will study communications techniques specific to H&SC. All students will start their continuous personal development. This will help them develop their fast progression in the industry. Students will also look into best practices and principles in H&SC. One principle of study will be health and safety, which involves the implementation of a person-centred approach in the delivery of H&SC. Students then study the option of partnerships in H&SC prior to their research project. This project is changed every year, depending on relevance in the industry. Further studies in psychology, learning methods, and infectious disease are taught by industry experts.

Youth unemployment is the highest in 23 years at 1.02 million (16-24 year olds). The total unemployment rate was 2.62 million or 8.3% of the working population as of September 2011, and is expected to reach 3 million (Office of National Statistics ONS) any day soon. Female unemployment is standing at 1.09 million, and highest in the South east.

I joined career Studies College in 2010 to study for an NVQ level 3 course in health and Social care. The support given me during this course has been an invaluable tool in improving my career development. The assessors and teachers at Career studies have given me the opportunity to join an unstinting and dynamic team whose philosophy lies on developing a sense of knowledge and professionalism in all they do. I have now been given another opportunity to complete my PTTLS award and well and truly on the way to developing the career I crave and ultimately my dreams.
